Featured Book of The Week
Author selection is based on who, or what most
impacted me personally, or in my literary life at the time of reading, as well as
those that prove a factor today.
The 48 Laws of Power was one of the most timely books I've had the pleasure
reading in a long time. Though my primary preference for reading is pretty much,
"anything fiction," this non-fiction guide on how to get ahead, and stay on top in
this competitive world of haters, and backstabbers was par for the course.
In all walks of life, those of us with compassion, and genuine concern for others
tend to fall prey to the vultures on the ladder of success. And, while I don't
necessarily agree with Greene's outlook, or approach to 'getting ahead,' I most
certainly found everything I'd read to be factual, and informative. For example, in
his preface, he recounts a writing by courtier Baltasar Gracian:
"Many people spend time studying
properties of animals or herbs; how much more important it would be to study those
of people, with whom we must live or die!"
Clear indication of the detriment of overlooking the subtleties of life, including
the hidden motives of those who surround us from near and far; another subject
Greene touches with the utmost completeness.
This book is a must read for the meek who may not comprehend
the not so appropriate actions of friends and loved ones, as well as those who're
enacting thereof. I learned more from the table of content and preface alone, than
most non-fiction books that I've read from cover to cover. I'm looking forward to
finishing and going back again and again. This is truly a tool to behold. |
